The TBI Waiver Program is for individuals with traumatic brain injuries, which are defined as a bump, blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. Developed by the state Department of Health and funded by Medicaid, this program is one component of a comprehensive strategy to prevent unnecessary entrances into nursing homes and to help individuals leave nursing homes to live in the community. Eleven services are available under this program to serve you in the community. Persons age 18 to 64 with a confirmed brain injury may be able to participate. Remember persons with gestational or birth related difficulties, such as Cerebral Palsy or autism, or who have a progressive degenerative disease, are not eligible for the waiver.
